There is one thing I cannot understand and if your panelist can explain. Any time there is a death on our roads, most times they are on bikes, but we suddenly see boat loads of police on the road stopping cars. I would think that if people are killing themselves on bikes than stop bikes!
Do you think it would be a good idea if bartenders had some type of container behind the bar that they (bartenders)can put drivers of any vehicle keys in it, of course the customer would have some type of i.d to get their keys back. If they are drunk, then they CANNOT have their keys to drive, that’s were CADA comes in for rides home.
I think one of the key points to make is that on a daily basis, we as adults are for good or for bad unwittingly teaching our children how to drive – what I mean by this is when I am driving my children to school the way that I am driving is how my child will drive when they grow up, we ALL KNOW that children grow up to what they have seen their parents do.
PARENTS AND ADULTS WE MUST REMEMBER OUR CHILDREN ARE WATCHING AND ABSORBING HOW WE DRIVE AND IF WE WANT THEM TO GROW UP TO DRIVE SAFELY AND KEEP THEMSELVES SAFE ON THE ROADS WE MUST BEGIN DRIVING SAFELY.
please explain why the courts have reduced the pe nalties on traffic violations 20 years ago 40 mph and you were off the road for 3 years. E
xplain why we allowed increased engine sizes didn’t we expect more speed related accidents
Are we going to increase cameras at traffic lights and use them to send tickets to culprits who go through red lights and hopefully lead to persons being taken off the road. Every single day cars / bikes go through the lights by HSBC on Albouys Point and accidents are just avoided. A serious accident is going to happen and a pedestrian is going to be knocked down (actually already happened)or a very serious car accident. Unfortunately this happens in the morning not when people are leaving the bars after drinking……can a simple solution be put in place – can not believe it can be that expensive……..
I believe very strongly that the “Designated Driver” initiative from time ago was in my opinion very successful and should be revived in the media. This initiative created “Talk” and a trend to be the “designated driver” became fashionable.
Children grow up to do what they have seen their parents do, SO, when we are driving our kids to school are we zipping in and out, overtaking on the inside, speeding, texting etc because IF WE ARE DOING ALL THESE THINGS THEN REST ASSURED OUR CHILDREN WILL GROW UP TO DRIVE THAT WAY ALSO. IS THAT REALLY HOW YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO DRIVE THEIR CAR OR BIKE.
WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN HOW TO DRIVE EVERY DAY, WHAT ARE THEY LEARNING FROM YOU?????
Please explain why the penalties for traffic have been relaxed 20 years ago 40 mph would result in 3 years off the road , Prison sentences for those who were caught driving while disqualified, Why did we pass laws for increased engine sizes, did we not think this have an effect on speed and then related accidents/deaths
The law says that a passenger cannot be carried on a bike so as to obstruct the view of the operator. That’s why you can carry a child on the front of a bike and not necessarily get a ticket. carrying a young child on the back of a bike can be even worse. Remember the child that fell off the back of a bike up in Somerset? Apparently their jacket snagged on a vehicle passing the opposite way.
I think people have lost fear from their parents which was instilled in my generation and I think they lack respect for the police and others so therfore they will continue to defy laws and unfortunately most cases succumb to an untimely death.
I wanted to get this point into your discussion on traffic but missed out. But just a thought to follow up on. have a look at the relationship between the condition of the road andr traffic accidents. More importantly look at the number of fatalities that have taken place near recently installed ‘rumble bumps.’ Crow Lane, Flatt’s etc,
Condition of the road near St. Mark’s Church etc.,
Why wasn’t the BDA party wasn’t invited and if they were, why can’t someone represent them? That’s one fragmented party they just need to disband and join the PLP.
we dont need party politics, the working class has been sold out by both parties and the positive future of bermuda is a bermuda without a westminister system…the westminster system has caused our decline as a nation, as long as we are under the westminster system the country will continue to decline
politicians r in politics for themselves
The senator is doing a great job. she has my vote.
Which party does Mr. Butterfield represents?
Mr. John is all over the place, I don’t understand his positions.
what will be done to end apparent abuse of tax payers funds
will all contracts be frozen for the AG to review?
how will you close the economic divide which is @ the root all the expansion of crime
if there r too many jobs for in bermuda for bermudians to fill where r all these so called jobs?
If I had a vote it would be Terry Lister all the way, he is the only one I have heard have real solutions to our problems…Paula Cox…. the shoe-in to be the next leader of the PLP… this is the person who rubber stamped all the “cost overuns” people! This is the person that thought it wise to RAISE your payroll tax and ALL Gov. fees during a recession! With more people out of work and nuff small business shutting down lets’s see if that move increased Gov. income versus the hardship it caused.
Next door to TCD is the delapidated Salvation Army shelter. The PLP Government can’t find $1m to build a new facility. No wonder when $10m has been paid out to friends and family on the TCD facility. Now we know who the PLP really look after.
has a gripe about the new Cambridge system in public schools… if I have to spend 3 hours everynight going over classwork and homework that my 6 year old quite obviously did not understand in school… what’s the point of school then… may as well teach him the lessons myself…
I, as a black female who has a B.Sc. degree in Accounting; MBA and presently a doctoral learner in Organizational Leadership cannot find employment. I have 20+ years in the accounting arena and everytime I go to an interview, they concentrate on what I do not have by way of certifications. I would like to know if this Premier will concentrate on making sure Bermudians are employed; there has been enough lip service. From where I sit, foreigners are still getting the best jobs with less education.
This current leadership respresent the same ole same ole with a different coat. The more things change the more they remain the same.
It is my belief that the politicians are not presently understanding the epistemological justification regarding the individuals of Bermuda. Are they aware of their epistemology in order to articulate based on their justfiable belief what is right or wrong? Sometimes, it is necessary to step back and re-evaluate their knowledge base before they can lead this island where it will be beneficial to all concern.
